I just finished the book for the second time, and the last chapter is full of fascinating quotes:

"When someone seeks, then it easily happens that his eyes see only the thing that he seeks, and he is able to find nothing, to take in nothing because he always thinks only about the thing he is seeking, because he has one goal, because he is obsessed with his goal. Seeking means: having a goal. But finding means: being free, being open, having no goal. You, Venerable One, may truly be a seeker, for, in striving toward your goal, you fail to see certain things that are right under your nose."

I would comment on this, but "Words are not good for the secret meaning, everything instantly becomes a bit different when we utter it, a bit adulterated, a bit foolish..."

Siddhartha says that "Wisdom cannot be communicated. Wisdom that a wise man tries to communicate always sounds foolish." Yet I think that Herman Hesse's words are full of wisdom. I hope you find them as enlightening as I do.
